So what the heck is NQIG anyway?
As far as we can discern, it is the fluke of some senile parents and to much sage smoke. Basically it is the name of the group that meets every Friday to participate is social lethargy. Think of it as a kind of house party, where only nerds attend. We play Smash Brothers Melee on the Game Cube, Magic the Gathering, all forms of Half-Life, and adventure in the fantasy world of Faerun. We have formed a committee that we call the DMC or Dungeon Master Council. The DMC is responsible for maintaining balance and order in our two campaigns. There are several non-members that come to our meetings to participate in the adventures. NQIG and the non-member crowd it draws also tend to engage in other activities, going to the movies, listening to music, participating in MTG tournaments, all the fun things that nerds do.

Can I join NQIG?
In short, no. NQIG is part of a collection of friends who have gathered together due to similar interests as well as geographic nearness. Even those from our area are restricted to invitation only, and the entry process assures only the most desired individuals become members.
What about [NQIG]? Aren't they the same as NQIG?
Nope. [NQIG] is actually a subgroup of NQIG. The main group is for all of our gaming activities, and although the majority of us participate in online gaming of some sort or another, not all of us do. Hobbit, for example, has only been playing Half-Life for a couple of weeks now, and is firmly involved with playing in single player. We hope some day he'll join us in [NQIG], but for now he does not participate in both groups.

Why would anyone want to compare themselves against incompetence?
Well, that's a long story, but in the long road a simple one. One day, while Jim was setting up the newly created group server, Ed, he needed to select a domain name for the system. So he, Spoony, and Vap sat down and thought about it. The group had been around for a while (one and a half years) but had never gotten around to naming itself. So they thought and they thought, and after several names, some of which where 13 letter acronyms (which they felt would suck to have to type in) they came up with the notion that we where gamers, who, although we may not be the 1337est people, had at least some aptitude for all kinds of games. So they decided to name themselves after their almost lack of skill, thus Not Quite Incompetent Gamers, or NQIG. (Plus it had the advantage of being an unused 4 letter acronym domain name.)
