I am a firm believer in the 1st amendment. I am also a firm believer in one's right to safety, but what happens when both rights are violated? This is the state of my school's security policy.
In my particular educational institute, a very strict set of rules has been imposed with the intent to increase our safety. But the implementation of those rules has been rather unique. For example: an ID policy has been instituted to prevent non-student people from entering the facility. This in itself is a perfectly acceptable policy. Where the breakdown occurs is in the enforcement. At the same time the ID policy was instituted, a rule mandating closed campus for freshmen and sophomores was implemented due to the newly constructed lunch room failing to meet quotas because of it's poor service. The administration at my educational institute vigorously enforced the ID policy, although uniquely, they did not check people coming on to the campus, they only checked the people leaving the campus. On a regular basis I would leave campus and come back a different way, passing a different administrator, only being checked on the way out. This is where my disgruntlement lies. I am perfectly content with the loss of my freedom if the reason I give up that freedom is actually followed through.
I feel that either nobody be required to visibly wear the ID on their upper torso, or they should be given the right to safety through the proper implementation of the security policy. I greatly detest both of these rights being taken away in the interest of a financial venture.
