All content is the intellectual property of its respective authors. The works on this site (including web pages, images, code segments, etc.) may be used without limitation for non-commercial purposes unless explicit notice is present. Copyright notices other than those naming Jim the Cactus constitute as such notice (i.e. images licensed by Jim the Cactus carrying the notice of a third party are not covered by this license and are subject to the license issued by the appropriate copyright holder.)

Okay, enough fancy legal talk (although what follows will constitute a plain text continuation of the above license.) Please don’t link to an image directly. I’m giving you an open license to use all of the art on my site for whatever purpose you deem fit, but that doesn’t mean you can just use an image on your site by directly linking to it on mine. That costs me bandwidth that I really just don’t have. Download the image onto your site and use it there.

Yes, I can use Jim The Cactus as my name on the copyright notices. Jim the Cactus is the name all of you recognize me by, so it’s what I use. See Circular 3 from the U.S. Copyright Office if you want to know more about why I can do that. Plus, since it’s uniquely identifying while simultaneously not being too easy to associate with things like my social security number, it provides me a fair balance between privacy and public work protection. Not that it’s exactly a big deal since I give an open license for non-commercial uses. And if we’re talking about my software, I even give a license for commercial use with a lot more limitations, although most people don’t typically think that the GNU Public License is all that limiting.

I would, however, like to ask that if you use my work, stuff a link to my site somewhere nearby. Also I’d love to hear about what you’re doing with it, and how it’s been useful, so an email would be nice. Neither of these two is required however (that’s what ‘without limitation’ means in the fancy legal speak, I can’t put ANY restriction on it,) but I’d also try and create a link from my site to yours if the content isn’t too obscene or harmful (like spyware sites and such).
