Swiss Banks - Chapter 4

As they arrived the Rangers looked around at the place where the next heist was going to be held. It was a very pretty neighborhood with a large prominent bank. The van pulled up in an alley about 150 feet away from the bank and parked. With this Nimnul jumped out of the van and said, “What kind tonight?” Gadget ran over to the edge leaned down for the rodents to see and yelled as loud as she could while the other rodents where speaking, “Monterey Jack!” Monty looked up at her with surprise at first, mostly because he was still thinking about cheese, but his surprise quickly turned to anger as he went rushing to the door where Gadget now dangled down. Quickly she got up and ran to the wing saying, “He’s coming, get ready.”

Monty scrambled up the side of the van, determined that he was going to kill this thing that he was so terribly angry at. As he got to the top of the van he saw the four Rangers on the roof of the van with a remote control looking thing. “Huh?” Was the last thought to come to his mind before it went blank. When he came to he was still standing, a strange thing to do when one has supposedly been unconscious. In front of him where four of his friends, Gadget, Dale, Foxglove, and his best pallie Zip. In his big booming voice he cried out, “Hay guys! I haven’t seen you for 2 or three days. Why don’t you come and visit?”

“Got it!” whispered Gadget to Foxglove as the remote finished recording this event.

“And Dale, why’d you quit? It’s quite a deal isn’t it?” said Monty.

“But is it really?” questioned Gadget.

“Sure, I do a little bit of running, then I get to scoop up all the cheese I can carry. It’s a nice life.”

“I have a question for you Monty, why did your arch-nemesis Nimnul offer such a deal for you?”

“Because he likes me?”

“Think back Monty, what brought you to Nimnul in the first place, seeking employment?”

At this moment, a white yellow colored beam came out of the back of the truck, turning the wall of the bank into a nice chunk of Monterey Jack cheese. ‘How ironic,’ thought Gadget, ‘my vote won.’ But before she even had time to finish her thought, Monty was scurrying down the side of the van. A small bang sounded and the razor net chopped the cheese into tiny blocks. Looking over the edge again, Gadget, Dale, Foxy, and Zipper could see Nimnul casually putting the net launcher down and walking into the bank. “Now what?” Dale said, “With that cheese, Monty is effectively without ears.”

“We can still get to Chip,” Gadget replied.

“But how?”

“Hmm, well… Unlike Monty we have a very special advantage with Chip. He may have one of the strongest wills I know, but he lacks in raw strength. Therefore I recommend that we take him by force and solve the problem later in more accommodating surroundings.”

“Sounds good to me!” And Dale was off. Hoping to keep Dale from getting harmed, Gadget and Foxy chased along after him, because although Chip isn’t anywhere near as strong as Monty, he was definitely strong enough to protect himself from Dale.

They found Chip with a bunch of other rodents using a section of cloth taken from Nimnul’s shack as a net with which to carry more cheese. “Hey Chip!” cried Dale as he came careening upon the scene with Gadget and Foxy right behind him. “Dale?!” Chip said right before he lost conciousness to a swift kick to the head from his best friend. As his limp body fell to the ground, the remaining rodents holding the cloth turned and looked in surprise and anger. “Uh, oh…” Gadget said “I hadn’t planned on this,” and scooped up Chips body from the ground and began running. As they all fled, Gadget elaborated, “I forgot that the rodents probably see Chip as a friend, and consequentially see us as brutal assailants (pant, pant) Not that they’re actually very far from the truth (pant pant)”

They ran as fast as they could, passing by Monty, whose whiskers where sticking straight out like he had just been hit by lightning. For a fleeting moment, he saw Gadget, with Chips lifeless body in her arms, fleeing from a pack of angry rodents. He through as much cheese in his pockets as he could carry and sped off to intercept the rodents. Gadget, Dale, and Foxy ran until they could see the van with the ranger wing carefully parked on top. Gadget yelled, “(pant, pant) Foxy (pant, pant) you’re gonna have to take Chip up,” and carefully handed Chip to the one party member with wings. “It’s going to be difficult with all this weight, but I’ll try,” replied Foxy as she quickly and carefully placed Chips body on the ground and grasped his shirt with her claws and slowly began hoisting him to the top of the van. Gadget and Dale scurried up the side of the van and hopped into the Ranger Wing as Foxy hit the top of the van rather roughly and out of breath. “(pant, pant, pant) I need (pant) a moment (pant) to rest (pant),” she said.

“We don’t have that kind of time,” cried Gadget, hopping back out of the wing to grab Chip and help Foxy.

Just as they got to the Ranger Wing, the rodents helping Chip began to come over the top of the van. “We’ve got company!” Dale yelled, pointing at a peculiarly dressed mouse that had just pulled himself up onto the van. “We don’t have time to take off!” screamed Gadget pushing Chip into the Wing.

“We can’t stand off here Gadget! They’ll overpower us easy,” whimpered Foxy.

“Then it’s over.” Said Gadget calmly as the rodents flooded across the top of the van. “The Rescue Rangers have failed.”

“Now why would you go and give up so easily luv?” Said Monty coming up over the van. The other rodents turned to look at the very large mouse. “The Rescue Rangers never give up, and although I’m not sure what happened to Chip, I know this lot’s responsible.”

“It’s not true, they’re innocent,” said Gadget. “Because of Nimnul’s control, we were forced to take aggressive action against Chip, and as a consequence of Dale’s rather rash behavior, Chip was rendered unconscious. These rodents are Chip’s friends.”

“You are?”

“Yah!” replied one of them. “These people just came up a whacked him while we where working. Then they grabbed his body and ran!”

“You did?!” Said Monty.

“Well, kind of… Yes, but we had to. Haven’t you all figured it out?! Nimnul is controlling you. He’s using you to rob banks. Ya you guys get cheese, but that cheese was once the brick wall of the bank!”

“You know, she’s right. It WAS a brick wall first,” a rodent remarked.

“Now that I think of it… Eww!” another responded. Monty, looked puzzled for a moment, then reached into his pockets and pulled out the cheese, although thinking of dropping it, he ate it instead. “Wall or not before, now it is cheese,” he said as he looked at Gadget’s disgusted expression.

“Well anyway, it’s good to be back with you guys” said Monty, giving every one a big mouse hug.

“It’s (ack) good to have ya back Monty,” replied Dale.

“The thing that gets me is, why did you come to help?” quizzed Gadget.

“Well, remember how you said to think about how I came to work for Nimnul?”

“Ya,”

“Well, I remembered. We had come to rescue Chip and Dale, and I got caught. I was angry as a dingo with no suppa’ when he pointed that thingy at me. Then I was angry at you, and never gave it a second thought.”

“Here he comes, everybody down!” said Foxy.

Nimnul carelessly strolled out of the bank, carrying several heavy bags of money. “Time to go my pets,” he said as he threw the bags into the van. After all the rodents had gotten back in he looked around. “Hmm, where did the big one go?” he said as he reached for the remote. “Well, if he’s gone, that means the remaining ones are around here somewhere meddling in things. I’ll have to be extra careful,” and slammed the van door shut. “Everyone brace yourselves!” said Gadget as Nimnul got in and started the van.
